Adventure Trips

Ready for some adventure? These trips provide the opportunity to meet new people, learn life skills and have fun in an outdoor setting. Trip cost covers transportation, instruction, use of equipment and most meals. Trips are open to UNT students, faculty, staff, Rec Center members, and their guests. Beginners to advanced outdoor enthusiasts alike are welcome on all trips! To register, sign up at the Outdoor Pursuits Center in the Pohl Recreation Center by the registration deadline. 

Camping 101 (Lake Ray Roberts State Park, Texas)

Interested in learning more about camping? Join us for an overnight stay at nearby Lake Ray Roberts State Park for a few lessons in basic campcraft that will prepare you for a night out on your own!

 Spring Break Adventure Trip (Palo Duro Canyon State Park, Texas)

Join us as we travel 800 feet down into the ancient cliffs of the second largest canyon in the country! We'll hike to the famous Lighthouse formation and see colorful red and yellow slopes called "Spanish Skirts." Finally, we'll head out on horseback for a guided tour of the "Grand Canyon of Texas!"

Day Hike (Dinosaur Valley State Park, Texas)

Dinosaur Valley State Park contains some of the best preserved dinosaur tracks in the world! Come explore the Paluxy River and view the tracks of an ancient hunt while hiking the hillside surrounding the National Natural Landmark.

Day Climb (Lake Mineral Wells State Park, Texas)

Learn the basics of outdoor climbing at the park's famous Penitentiary Hollow climbing area. The area features top rope climbing opportunities on conglomerate rock for all skill levels.

Day Canoe (Elm Fork, Trinity River, Texas)

Ever wanted to canoe? Spend a day with us while we teach the basics of paddling on the beautiful Elm Fork of the Trinity River.

Canoe Camping (Brazos River, Texas)

Float along the same historic river the conquistadors explored and the Comanche Indians used to hide from US Cavalry. This two day trip will show you 20 miles of the Mississippi of Texas.
